Sessions Format Has Changed

Sessions will no longer be invitation only.  Greg will provide one or two session leaders on most Saturdays at 1pm.  Qualified students can join the sessions any time.

The list of all qualifications will be on the handout table in class.  Session students are required to have completed the first two years of Taborgrass or receive the green light from Greg to participate.

Please no more than 8 students per session.  No more than 2 like instruments between the students in a session.  And please don’t hog the sessions.  Give everyone a chance to participate.  Be courteous but also be opportunistic.  Your instrument may be needed on consecutive weeks.  There should be enough spaces available for everyone to participate at least every other week.

Annalisa Tornfelt's Fall Fiddle Class

Annalisa Tornfelt's Fall Fiddle Class

October and November 2016 beginning October 5
Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00PM
Location: Home of Annalisa Tornfelt
Email Annalisa for her address!  annalisatornfelt@gmail.com

Several people have asked me if I would offer a fiddle class and this is something I have always wanted to do. My goal is to offer a closer look at the specific techniques for fiddle in a way that is continuous, gradually progressive and builds on skills from the ground up.

The classes will be Wednesday nights at my home. If you can’t make all of them, it’s no problem. Each session will highlight certain techniques (see the list below for specifics) and tie those techniques to the Taborgrass songs and tunes.

Fall Fiddle dates are: 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 11/30

Focusing on techniques to be able to:

  • sound more bluegrassy (Tone Production)
  • play backup (Double stops & Fills)
  • apply scales to improvising a solo (Scales & Why?)
  • play a bluegrassy break to a song (Specific Licks & Embellishments)
  • start and end a song (Kickoffs, Endings and How to Find Them)

The fee per session will be sliding, depending on how many people attend. If 5-7people come, it will be $20each, if 8-10 come, it will be $15, and if 11-15 come, it will be $10.  Email me if you are coming and when you show up, pay the appropriate fee. If I know how many are coming before each session, I will let you know the fee.

Please share this info with friends! Thank you!

TurtleGrass Dinner Party at the Mt St Helens/Toledo Bluegrass Festival - FRIDAY, August 12th

There will be a dinner party at the TurtleGrass camp at the festival on FRIDAY August 12th. The time is 4:00 to 5:30. We will fire up the grill right at 4:00 so that we can get down to the main event area in time for the bands.

The first band goes on at 5:30 and I am sure you don’t want to miss Fern Hill’s performance. They have great harmonies and traditional bluegrass sound. One of my NW favorites.

We provide the Brats and paper goods. To participate bring a side dish to be shared with others as well as your own beverage and chair.

Please send a text to 503-522-2387 or send an email to firridge@ccgmail.net if you plan to join us, so we know about how many brats to bring.

Our grill master Bill McCall hopes to set a new record at the grill. If you need a suggestion as to what to contribute I will be happy to provide. Many folks tell me what they are making/bringing so I could share ideas with you.

Specifics regarding this festival can be found at washingtonbluegrass.orgThis is a fun festival with a great band lineup…. we hope to see you there.

Slow jamming at the TurtleGrass tent throughout the festival The new tune is Arkansas Traveler( Key of D ) and the song is Build Me A Cabin In The Corner Of Glory Land (most likely key of A if Jan leads it and key of D if Bill leads it). You should be able to google these two melodies easy enough. If not, no big deal. Life is one sweet song….so start the music!
