Happy Holidays!

 Thanks for a fantastic year of Taborgrass everyone! 

Recordings are up for Breaking up Christmas, and will be up shortly for I'm Going Back to Old Kentucky.

We'll return on January 8 2022! Our first class of the new year will have some special guests and classes, so stay tuned for updates!

It's the last Taborgrass of the year tomorrow! Fear not, we'll be back January 8.

Tomorrow' we'll be working on "I'm Going Back to Old Kentucky" in A in the song class, and "Breaking up Christmas" (in A) in the tune class.

This class is all about fiddle tunes! We'll be learning some jam favorites from the bluegrass and old time repertoire, focusing on getting the melodies in our heads and the notes in our fingers. 

Jam Class 3:30-4:45

A whole class just for jamming! Here we'll be working on all the ins and outs of playing music with other people. We'll work on calling songs, taking breaks, listening in, and communicating with your fellow jammers. Bring a song or tune to call!

Class cancelled 11/27

Hey Taborgrassers!

We've encountered some airline trouble, and won't be back in town in time for Taborgrass this Saturday. Class is cancelled 11/27, so we'll see you all back at taborgrass on 12/4.

...We're Back!

Good News Taborgrassers!

Taborgrass is going to be back at Waverly with some in person classes starting October 9! (Also stay tuned for some upcoming Zoom bluegrass bootcamp workshops to get your fingers back in shape!) We're so excited to get back at it after a Summer break, and can't wait to see you.

We've got some brand new classes we're super excited to show you. Here's the schedule:

Saturdays:
Song Class 12:30-1:45
This class is all about how to learn and jam on bluegrass songs. We'll be walking you through some bluegrass classics, working on their chord progressions, melodies, and lyrics. The focus will be on giving you new songs to call at a jam.

Tune Class 2:00-3:15
This class is all about fiddle tunes! We'll be learning some jam favorites from the bluegrass and old time repertoire, focusing on getting the melodies in our heads and the notes in our fingers. 

This class is melody oriented; if you're a banjo or dobro player that isn't used to playing the same melody a fiddle might play (e.g. rolling through a tune) but would like to learn fiddle tunes, get in touch with us at taborgrass@gmail.com.

Jam Class 3:30-4:45
A whole class just for jamming! Here we'll be working on all the ins and outs of playing music with other people. We'll work on calling songs, taking breaks, listening in, and communicating with your fellow jammers. Bring a song or tune to call!

Open Jam 12:30-4:45
Back by popular demand! We'll have a room set aside for folks interested in just getting together to play. To coordinate jam times with other Taborgrassers, head on over to our facebook group

Pricing:
$10 for one class, $5 for each additional class
$5 suggested donation for the open jam

Covid-19 Policy

Obviously, minimizing covid-19 risk is a huge priority for us over at Taborgrass HQ. We really care about all of you, and want Taborgrass to be as safe as possible. Here's our policy:

In order to attend Taborgrass, you must be vaccinated
This is among the best ways to keep yourself and others safe. On your first visit, please bring either your vaccination record card or a clear photograph of it. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from being vaccinated, get in touch with us at taborgrass@gmail.com.

Masks on at all times
If you're inside the building, please wear a mask, especially when singing. You can read more about singing and covid risk here.

Check out Tommy Jarrell playing Soldier's Joy. Tommy is a legend in the Old-Time world, and his playing will give you a sense of what these tunes sound like in a traditional context. Sometimes the tune has lots of notes, sometimes few, always grooving!

Zoom Class and SpringGrass!!!

 Hey Taborpals!

Zoom Class is coming up next Wednesday 3/10!
We'll keep digging into Streamline Cannonball and June Apple, and add Shady Grove into the mix. There's PLENTY of versions of this song out there, we'll be sticking pretty close to the David Grisman and Jerry Garcia version. Details in the music section on the site!

In other news, we (Patrick and Kaden) are putting on an all-zoom bluegrass festival on March 20!
It's called SpringGrass, and will feature workshops, performances, and everything in between from a plethora of local and national bluegrass extraordinaires. It's also donation based, with 100% of proceeds going to the artists. Check out the website for lineup and details, we'd love to see you there!

We've got workshops this Saturday! Plus, Zoom Class Wednesday 2/24!

Workshops this Saturday 2/20:

FRETBOARD! This workshop is all about finding your way around it. We'll talk about figuring out what note you're on, finding scales, chords, and arpeggios, and how all the strings relate to each other. Let's go fretboard spelunking!

From Scruggs to  Hartford  to Danny Barnes, Brian has licks that he wants you to have.

This week we'll start looking at Streamlined Cannonball, a Roy Acuff song injected into the bluegrass universe by Doc Watson. Check out Doc Watson's take on it, plus a peak into Doc's legacy through Bryan Sutton and Billy Strings below. See you soon folks!

Hometown heroes Annie Staninec and Brian Alley will teach fiddle and banjo workshops respectively, and Patrick and Kaden (that's us!) will offer up some guitar and mandolin. Schedule below! We're Back!

 Hey Taborgrassers!

We're back! We hope you've all had a good holiday break, and are excited to start picking again in 2021! Zoom Class is back on January 13, where we'll be working on Footprints in the Snow, Clinch Mountain Backstep, and the gospel duet Where the Soul of Man Never Dies. Hope to see you there!

The bluegrass world lost a legend over the holidays with the passing of Tony Rice. If you'd like to learn more about Tony's music and contributions to bluegrass, you can read this article by Chris Eldridge, a former student of Tony's and one of the finest guitar pickers around.
